Jannik Sinner Reveals Relationship Status After Brooks Nader Dating Rumors

When it came to his second-round match at the 2026 French Open, top-ranked Jannik Sinner quite literally could not handle the heat.

Though the 24-year-old tennis player came into his May 28 match against 56th-ranked Juan Manuel Cerundolo as the favorite to win the tournament and complete a career Grand Slam, he definitely didn't like it hot as he struggled to maintain his energy in the 90-degree temps.

Entering competition on a 30-match win streak, Sinner seemed primed to smash his competition as he put away the first two sets. But after leading 5-1 in the third, the San Candido, Italy-born athlete lost 18 points in a row before requesting medical attention.

And once he returned to the clay court at Paris' Stade Roland Garros, it was decidedly not love-all for Sinner. He dropped three more games, then the set and finally the match.

"I feel sorry for him because he deserved to win a lot of matches," Cerundolo said after his stunning victory, "and of course he was deserving to win this match, but then I don't know what happened."

Allow us to serve up some facts.

Who Is Jannik Sinner?

The Italian professional tennis player has certainly got game. With four major championships under the waist band of his shorts—back-to-back Australian Open victories, the US Open in 2024 and Wimbledon the following year—he is currently considered the best in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals. The first Italian player in tennis history to hold court at No. 1, he edges out Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic

With a French Open win his last hurdle to complete a rare career Grand Slam, the 6-foot-3 athlete—who turned pro in 2018—was hoping to backhand his way to a trophy.

What Happened to Jannik Sinner at the 2026 French Open?

Most tennis fans assumed the backhand specialist would ace his second match at the Paris-set French Open. On a hot streak as he bested Argentina's Cerundolo in the first two sets, he began to wilt after going up in the third. Even after receiving medical attention, he bent over several times in apparent exhaustion and struggled to chase balls down.

While Sinner attempted to keep his cool by using a handheld fan and draping bags of ice over his neck, he simply couldn't serve up a victory, dropping 18 out of 20 games en route to a shocking loss.

Though Cerendulo entered the court as a 32-1 underdog, per DraftKings Sportsbook, Sinner became the first top men's seed in more than 25 years to fail to advance to the third round.

What Did Jannik Sinner Say After His French Open Loss?

Quite simply, Sinner shared post-match, the ball didn't bounce his way. "I didn't feel very well on court, but it can happen," he explained when speaking to reporters following the May 28 loss. "I was in a good spot, also third set. I couldn't serve it out. Then struggled quite a bit."

Though Sinner noted his opponent "played a very solid match," he was less generous regarding his own performance.

"I struggled, starting to feel very dizzy," he continued. "Very low of energy. Tried to serve it out, but didn't have a lot of energy." He sacrificed the fourth set in the hopes of being able to hold court in the fifth, Sinner added, "Then it went a bit downwards."

Though temps climbed past 90, Sinner didn't feel too hot under the collar about the situation.

Explaining that he just struggled with his energy levels, he told reporters, "It was warm, but not crazy warm. I feel like it was quite okay to play. Really it was nothing against the heat, nothing against the weather. It was just me today, but it happens."

Which Tennis Stars Are Still Competing at the French Open?

For the first time since Djokovic's 2023 US Open win, someone either than Sinner or Alcaraz will claim a major crown. With Alcaraz sidelined following a right wrist injury at April's Barcelona Open, Djokovic is the only men's player left competing in Paris who holds a Grand Slam title.
