Why Mark Consuelos Uses 'Live' for Nerve-Wracking Kelly Ripa Conversations

Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa are truly unfiltered on Live

After all, the Riverdale alum revealed why he sometimes uses their daytime talk series to broach difficult conversations.

“When I’m really afraid to talk about something, I wait for the show,” Mark admitted to Entertainment Tonight in a joint interview with his wife of 29 years on the Oscars 2026 red carpet. “That way I have safety in numbers. I’m in a safe space.

To which Kelly added through laughter, “Why discuss is privately when I can bring it up in front of the audience?”

But while the couple—who share Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 23—were spending their evening at the 98th Academy Awards, they were still planning on kicking off their Monday morning bright and early.

“All I know is that I wake up about 15 minutes into the show tomorrow morning,” Mark joked of the early call time. “I’m like, ‘Oh we’re here.’ And the show has been on already.”

Meanwhile, Kelly—who has previously hosted Live with Regis Philbin, Michael Strahan and Ryan Seacrest—detailed why she loves a post-Oscars morning on their show.

“There’s something really magical about taking that stage, that early morning hour, in front of all those people, knowing that so many moments of history were made the night before,” Kelly admitted. “Whoever shows up, shows up and we are grateful to them.”

Indeed, the Oscars 2026 panned out with several surprise wins amid stacked categories. One Battle After Another’s Teyana Taylor and WeaponsAmy Madigan were considerable favorites for the Best Supporting Actress trophy—having split major awards alongside SinnersWunmi Mosaku—but the 75-year-old ultimately took the Academy’s prize

“This is great,” Amy said upon accepting the award. “Everybody’s been asking me, in the press for all of this, ‘Well it’s been 40 years and, what’s different about this time?’ What’s different is I got this little gold guy!”
