Why APC Has No Board Of Trustees – National Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has given reasons the ruling party operates without a Board of Trustees.

Naija News reports that he said the decision is based on the party’s belief that members at the grassroots should own and fund the party, instead of leaving control in the hands of a few elders.

Yilwatda spoke in Abuja during a public event where he addressed issues about the party’s structure and internal system.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the chairman said the APC continues to grow because of its strong internal system and open style of administration.

According to him, the party is funded mainly through dues and lawful contributions from members across the country.

He said this approach gives members a real sense of belonging and control over party affairs.

He added that this is why the APC does not operate a Board of Trustees, as the power of the party rests with its members.

The chairman also explained why the party linked its membership register with the National Identity Number managed by the National Identity Management Commission.

He said connecting the database to the NIN system has helped the party clean up its records and confirm the true identity of members. This, he noted, has improved accountability within the party.

Yilwatda said the electronic registration system allows the party to access details of its members instantly.

With this system, the party knows where members are located and how to contact them.

He said this makes mobilization easier and helps the party conduct primaries in a more credible way.

He added that only verified members are allowed to take part in internal elections because of the digital register.
