A fourth film in the True to the Game universe is ready for action.
The crime-thriller franchise will return with a fourth installment, as True to the Game: Quadir’s Redemption is set to premiere via Paramount+ on Dec. 15, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Reprising their roles from the previous chapters include Erica Peeples (Gena Rollins), Columbus Short (Quadir Richards), Vivica A. Fox (Shoog), Iyana Halley (Bria), Starletta Dupois (Gah-Git), Andra Fuller (Jerrell), Kris D. Lofton (Terrell) and Lisa Renee Pitts (Viola Richards).
True to the Game: Quadir’s Redemption continues the trilogy that centers on Gena (Peeples) and Quadir (Short) attempting to establish their life together amid his complicated ties to the drug world. The new film builds on their journey as a question arises surrounding Gena’s baby that threatens to permanently change their relationship.
Salvatore Sclafani directed the movie from a script by Manny Halley, who executive produces for Imani Media Group.
Adapting Teri Woods’ best-selling 1998 novel, True to the Game kicked off the franchise in 2017 and spawned the sequels Game 2: Gena’s Story (2020) and True to the Game 3 (2021). The first three titles will be available for streaming exclusively on Paramount+ on Dec. 1.
During an interview with SideWalks timed to the third movie’s release, Short recalled his initial connection with the premise of the franchise. “What really drew me to the role was the love story, the vulnerability and being true to the game,” the actor explained. “Vivica [Fox’s] character, Shoog, and my character, the loyalty between them — that’s being true to the game. When love comes in, it changes things.”
