Taraba PDP Caretaker Committee Orders SWC Out Of Secretariat

Fresh crisis has hit the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State after the newly formed 16-member State Caretaker Committee asked members of the dissolved State Working Committee to leave the party’s state secretariat.

Naija News reports that the directive was made public on Thursday evening in a statement issued by the Caretaker Committee chairman, Dr. Falack Victor.

He said the former SWC members no longer have the right to remain in the secretariat following their removal from office and warned that failure to comply could lead to legal steps against them.

According to him, remaining in the party office after a lawful dissolution goes against the law.

He maintained that the committee is acting within legal boundaries and insisted that no individual is greater than the party or the law.

He also urged party members to focus on rebuilding the party in the state instead of attacking the national leadership.

The development followed a press statement released on February 24, 2026, by the dissolved SWC, which rejected the authority of the caretaker body.

The former executives described the committee as lacking constitutional backing and accused it of misleading party members.

Responding to the claim, Dr. Victor said the caretaker committee derives its authority from a judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan.

The ruling was delivered on January 30, 2026, by Justice U.N. Agomoh. The court nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, and declared that all decisions taken at that gathering were invalid.

He added that the judgment recognised the National Caretaker Committee as the only lawful body to manage the party’s affairs and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to deal with it as such.

Dr. Victor said the aim of the caretaker committee is to restore order within the party structure in Taraba State and not to target anyone. He called on members to avoid factional actions and support efforts toward unity.
