Six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party.

Naija News reports that the lawmakers made their decision known on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party held in Osogbo.

The announcement was made by Clement Akanni, who represents Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency.

He spoke on behalf of the other lawmakers who joined him in the move.

Those who defected include Mahruf Adewale of Osogbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam of Ede Federal Constituency, Soji Adetunji of Ikirun Federal Constituency, Mudashiru Lukman Alani of Iwo Federal Constituency, and Lanre Oladebo of Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency. Akanni said they had all decided to move to the Accord Party.

During the event, Akanni expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke would win the governorship election scheduled for August 15.

He urged party members and supporters to vote in large numbers and stay behind after voting to monitor the process.

He also advised them to check ballot papers and result sheets before voting to ensure everything was in order.

According to him, their expectation was that the majority of votes would go to Adeleke in the election.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who addressed the gathering, said his earlier decision to leave the PDP and join the Accord Party came after a period of personal reflection and consultation.

He explained that the PDP was facing internal problems at the time, which made him consider another political platform ahead of his re-election bid. He said he consulted trusted leaders and sought spiritual direction before settling on the Accord Party.

Governor Adeleke had earlier joined the Accord Party in December 2025 and secured its governorship ticket.

In addition, 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly who were elected under the PDP in the 2023 general elections also defected to the Accord Party.

They said their decision was aimed at allowing them continue serving their constituencies under the new platform.
