Scott Mills has signed off from the BBC breakfast show for the last time.

The DJ, who has hosted BBC Radio 2 since January 2025, has aburptly left the broadcast company’s flagship show, BBC confirmed March 30.

“While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals,” a spokesperson for the brand said in a statement to E! News, “We can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”

Meanwhile, the outlet’s director of music, Lorna Clarke, sent an internal note to staff following Scott’s abrupt exit from the company after over 20 years working in various departments.

“I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock,” Lorna wrote in her note obtained by E! News. “Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programs on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV.  I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.”

Despite acknowledging Scott’s exit came as a surprise to employees, Lorna did not elaborate on the cause for Scott’s departure.

“I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I’m able to,” she continued. “While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now.”

Prior to taking over the BBC Radio 2 flagship breakfast show in January 2025, Scott—who tied the knot with husband Samuel Vaughan in 2024—acted as a host for the BBC Radio 1 series from 2004 to 2022. His last appearance on air occurred on March 24, when he told listeners during the Radio 2 breakfast show, “Back tomorrow.”

The next day, however, DJ Gary Davies opened the show saying he was “in” for the host.

Shortly after news of Scott’s exit became public March 30, Jeremy Vine kicked off his BBC Radio 2 lunchtime program by saying he was “taken aback by the story,” adding that he had “no further information.”
