Paul Rudd Reveals Daughter Darby’s Reaction to Him Working With Nick Jonas
There are perks of being an A-lister.
And while Paul Rudd’s son Jack, 20, and daughter Darby, 16—whom he shares with wife Julie Yaeger—are not normally impressed with their dad’s star power, his collaboration with Nick Jonas on the movie Power Ballad changed the game.
“I think my daughter is impressed that I got to meet Nick Jonas,” Paul told E! News during the film’s New York City screening May 19. “She's excited about that.”
Though the 57-year-old admitted Jack and Darby aren’t always the most vocal with their support.
“They're like, ‘This is like dad's job,’” he said. “They got other things to worry about and to concern themselves with, and that's fine with me. I think that's great, but I do think that quietly they’re proud.”
But while Nick and Paul’s onscreen relationship is fraught in Power Ballad after Paul’s character accuses Nick’s of stealing his song, their friendship hit the right chord offscreen.
“There's a scene in the movie where we kind of first meet and hang out and start kind of jamming and writing together, and that was the first thing that Nick and I shot together,” the Marvel Star explained. “So, we were kind of getting to know each other as people while we're getting to know each other as characters, and it felt really easy. We kind of clicked right away.”
Despite not having met before, the Jonas Brothers member immediately made Paul feel at ease.
“I mean, he's the real deal,” he added, “so that's always a little nerve-wracking to kind of do that with somebody who does this for a living. But he was great, and it was really fun.”

Because while Paul has no trouble smashing bad guys as a giant (or tiny) superhero, the idea of letting the world get an up close and personal look at his singing was a little more intimidating.
“It's just kind of a little out of my comfort zone,” Paul admitted. “I certainly love music, I like to sing, but I mean, I'm not a singer or anything. But I liked playing this part, and I'm sure you know, on some level—we all dream of being rock stars.”
And for Nick, working on the John Carney-led movie—which premieres in select theaters May 29 and nationwide June 5—alongside Paul was equally a dream come true.
“I think for both of us,” the 33-year-old said, “we're such fans of John Carney, and all his films—Once, Sing Street—they just have this real sense of heartwarming storytelling, and make you feel good, but with usually a real message.”
He added, “I think this film has few messages that I really resonated with, and then on top of that, the music is just out of this world, amazing.”
Power Ballad is ready to rock your world starting June 5. For more movies premiering soon, read on.
