The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted that many Nigerians still love him.
Naija News reports that Wike made this known on Monday during a media chat with selected journalists.
The former Governor of Rivers State expressed optimism that Nigerians will massively vote for him if he contests the presidency.
The Wike emphasised that he can easily connect with ordinary Nigerians, pointing out that his achievements in Rivers State and the FCT will always speak for him.
Wike also expressed confidence that even if the recently concluded council election in the nation’s capital should be repeated, his loyalists will still win.
He said, “Nigerians still love me, and if I run for the presidential election, they will vote for me massively”.
Meanwhile, Wike has defended the imposition of a curfew ahead of the February 21 area council elections in Abuja, insisting that the decision was within his powers and duly approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike maintained that as the “governor of the FCT,” he had the authority to take security decisions, including restricting movement.
Responding to criticisms over the restriction of human and vehicular movement from 8 pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday, Wike said the measure was purely for security purposes.
