The member representing Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, was on Monday booed and hurriedly escorted out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred during the party’s leadership election meeting in his hometown, Tofa, as some aggrieved youths openly confronted the lawmaker.

Viral video clips circulating on social media showed supporters chanting disapproval while Jobe was addressing the gathering.

In one of the clips, a voice from the crowd was heard saying, “Wallahi, our leader, there are issues to fix. We hunters, you have not considered us.”

The protest reportedly escalated as some youths continued shouting and making abusive remarks.

Subsequent footage showed aides and supporters struggling to escort the lawmaker away from the venue and into a waiting vehicle amid rising tension.

The development comes amid heightened political activity in the Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa federal constituency ahead of the next election cycle.

Jobe, who is currently serving his fifth term in the House of Representatives, is said to be eyeing a sixth term. His recent return to the APC has fuelled speculation that he may be seeking an automatic ticket for the forthcoming elections.

Tofa’s outing was reportedly his first major public appearance in his hometown since securing his fifth term in 2023.

Earlier this month, the lawmaker had appealed to constituents to forgive him for any shortcomings during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party, which allegedly ended in disorder.

Some members of the community have criticised Jobe’s performance at the National Assembly.

One of the critics, Umar Danladi, alleged that the lawmaker sponsored only one bill in his 19 years in the National Assembly — a proposed Federal University of Medical Sciences, which he claimed has yet to materialise.

Danladi also alleged that Jobe made minimal contributions to debates on the floor of the House.

The Dawakin Tofa constituency has historically produced prominent political figures, including the late Danmasanin Kano, Dr Yusuf Maitama Sule, the late Dr Maikano Rabiu, the late Mustapha Janguza, Engr Hamisu Abubakar Lambu, and Hon Shehu Haruna Lambu.
