The lawmaker representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lamido also dismissed claims circulating in political circles that he was no longer a member of the ruling party, describing the insinuations as false and misleading.

Naija News reports that the lawmaker made the declaration during an interview with newsmen, insisting that his membership of the party remains intact.

Responding to speculation about his political affiliation, the senator said he had recently renewed his membership of the APC, stressing that those claiming otherwise were spreading falsehood.

“I remain in my party, the APC, as you know, and I have renewed my membership card, which was recently done online. Anyone who says I am not a member of the APC is lying,” he told Daily Trust.

Lamido maintained that he had no reason to abandon the party and would pursue his governorship ambition under its platform.

The senator explained that his decision to join the governorship race was largely driven by the security challenges confronting parts of Sokoto State, particularly banditry and the displacement of rural communities.

According to him, tackling insecurity must be the top priority for any administration seeking to restore normalcy and promote development in the state.

“Sokoto State has suffered greatly from insecurity. Our people in the rural areas need protection to return to their farms and livelihoods. We must prioritise security if we are to achieve meaningful development,” he said.

Lamido stressed that addressing the challenge would require stronger collaboration between the state government, federal security agencies and local communities.

Beyond security, Lamido said his administration, if elected, would focus on repositioning the state’s economy through investments in agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure development.

The lawmaker noted that Sokoto possesses vast agricultural potential, which could be harnessed to create jobs and boost economic growth.

He added that his governorship ambition was not driven by personal gain but by a desire to serve the people and contribute to the state’s development.
