Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to resign if President Bola Tinubu does not win the 2027 general elections.

Naija News reports that Okpebholo made this vow on Friday during an interview on African Independent Television, AIT.

While referring to various development projects in the state, Okpebholo said that Edo people will appreciate Tinubu at the ballot box in 2027.

The Governor added that his style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots.

He said, “Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes.

“The various projects across the state are the things that will speak for Tinubu and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as Governor.

“There’s no election here for him. I’m a politician, who under-studied Chief Aneni. My style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots.”

Meanwhile, the member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency of Edo State, Hon.Billy Osawaru, has dismissed claims that Governor Okpebholo was responsible for the assassination attempt on former presidential candidate, Peter Obi and other opposition leaders.

He was replying to allegations by his colleague in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe (Anambra State), who stated that Okpebholo must address the development and take responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of all political actors within his jurisdiction, irrespective of party affiliation.

Naija News recalls that Obi and some chieftains of the ADC, including John Odigie-Oyegun, were attacked by suspected thugs at the party’s state secretariat in Benin City on Tuesday.

However, Osawaru, while addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja, stated that Uzokwe’s call was ill-intentioned.
