The Bauchi State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that Governor Bala Mohammed is no longer a member of the party, describing his recent claim of PDP membership as misleading.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Chairman of the Bauchi State PDP Caretaker Committee, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party said its attention had been drawn to a viral video in which the governor reportedly claimed he remained a member of the PDP.
The statement said the claim was made while the governor was breaking the Ramadan fast with some supporters at the Government House in Bauchi.
The Caretaker Committee referenced the 103rd and 104th Resolutions of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), stating that Governor Bala Mohammed, alongside Governors Seyi Makinde and Dauda Lawal, among others, had been formally expelled from the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this claim is misleading,” the statement read.
“The Caretaker Committee wish to respectfully draw the attention of His Excellency, and members of the public to the 103rd and 104th Resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party, wherein he, Gov Bala, alongside Governors Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, and host of others, were formally expelled from the Party for actions deemed inconsistent with the constitution of the party.”
The committee stressed that the party’s position regarding the governor’s status “remains clear and has not changed.”
The statement further maintained that the governor’s public declarations or media engagements could not override the party’s established position.
“The Governor’s repeated public posturing cannot override the established position of the Party. They cannot be set aside by public declarations, media statements or informal engagements,” it stated.
It added that if Governor Bala Mohammed sincerely wished to remain within the PDP fold, he should demonstrate a genuine commitment to reconciliation.
The committee specifically mentioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, urging the governor to reconcile with stakeholders he had openly confronted.
“Rather than attempting to rewrite the narrative through media appearances, if Governor Bala Mohammed sincerely desires to remain within the PDP, the appropriate course is to demonstrate genuine commitment to reconciliation with critical stakeholders he openly confronted, particularly the Hon. Minister of the FCT, His Excellency, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, GSSRS,” the statement said.
Beyond the internal party dispute, the Bauchi PDP Caretaker Committee urged the governor to concentrate on governance, citing rising insecurity in the state, particularly in his local government area.
Members of the PDP in Bauchi State and other stakeholders were advised to treat the governor’s statement with caution and continue supporting the state Caretaker Committee.
“The integrity of the party’s processes must be preserved at all times,” the statement concluded.
