The 2026 Gotham Film Awards nominations have been announced.
All of a Sudden, Clarissa, La Gradiva, The Invite and Tender Loving Care top this year’s nominees with four nods each.
Clarissa and The Invite are both nominated for the top prize, best feature, alongside Club Kid, The Debut, Dreams in Nightmares, Josephine, Mouse, Paper Tiger, Primetime, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.
This year, the Gotham Film Awards is bringing back its Audience Award, which returns after a six-year absence, and is designed to celebrate movies that become cultural moments through their impact, reach and resonance. The Audience Award is voted on by Gotham members and goes to a film’s director(s) and producer(s). This year’s Audience Award nominees were curated by films submitted to The Gothams and, the organization says, “measured by opening-weekend per-theater average against the highest-rated and most-watched films of 2026, as reported in box office tracking and on Letterboxd.”
This year’s Audience Award nominees are Backrooms, La Bola Negra, The Drama, The Invite, Michael, Obsession, Project Hail Mary and You Can See Everything.
In addition to best feature and the Audience Award, The Invite is up for best adapted screenplay (Rashida Jones, Will McCormack) and best supporting performance (Penélope Cruz).
In addition to best feature, Tender Loving Care is up for best director and original screenplay (Mike Leigh) and best supporting performance (Kate O’Flynn).
Clarissa is up for best feature, adapted screenplay (Chuko Esiri), lead performance (Sophie Okonedo) and breakthrough performer (India Amarteifio).
All of a Sudden is up for best international feature, best director and best adapted screenplay (Ryusuke Hamaguchi) and best supporting performance (Tao Okamoto).
La Gradiva is up for best international feature, breakthrough director (Marine Atlan), best original screenplay (Atlan and Anne Brouillet) and breakthrough performer (Colas Quignard).
Since 2021, the Gotham Awards have recognized performers in gender-neutral categories.
Gotham Award nominees are selected by committees of critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators.
Separate juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors and others directly involved in making films will determine the final award recipients.
Recent Gotham Award winners have included Oscar winners One Battle After Another, No Other Land, Everything Everywhere All at Once, CODA, Nomadland, Marriage Story, American Factory, Moonlight, Spotlight and Birdman.
In addition to the competitive awards, The Gotham Film & Media Institute, which presents the awards, previously announced the following honorary accolades that will be presented during the 2026 Gotham Film Awards: the Gotham Legacy Tribute in honor of Ian Charleson (Elsinore), the Gotham Musical Tribute (Michael), the Gotham Anniversary Tribute (Laika), the Gotham Director Tribute (Danny Boyle, Ink) and the Gotham Vanguard Tribute (La Bola Negra).
The 36th Gotham Film Awards will take place on Monday, Nov. 30, at its longtime home of Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
A complete list of this year’s Gotham Film Awards nominees follows.
Full disclosure: The Hollywood Reporter‘s reviews editor and film critic Jon Frosch was part of the nominating committee for original and adapted screenplay.
