‘Full-Blown Dictatorship, You Will Become His Slaves’ – Momodu To Govs Backing Tinubu’s Return

Former presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has expressed shock at what he described as the overwhelming support President Bola Tinubu is receiving from state governors, warning that Nigeria risks sliding into dictatorship if the President secures a second term in 2027.

Momodu spoke during an interview on News Central, where he criticised the growing wave of defections by governors elected on opposition platforms to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Naija News reports that in recent months, several governors originally elected under opposition parties have aligned with the APC.

Among the latest developments is the reported move involving Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, which has further fuelled speculation about the strength of the opposition ahead of 2027.

Reacting to the trend, Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, accused the governors of prioritising political survival over democratic principles.

“The governors are fighting to ensure Tinubu wins a second term, fighting to be the biggest thug for him,” he said.

‘I Don’t Know What ‘Jazz’ They’ve Used On Them’

Momodu said he was baffled by what he termed the governors’ sudden loyalty to the President.

“I don’t know what jazz they’ve used on them. What they all forget is that if a man in his first term can capture the bodies and the souls of Nigerians this way, what will he do when he has power for the second term and has no need for anybody?” he asked.

According to him, a second term for Tinubu could weaken institutional checks and balances, leaving governors vulnerable.

‘They’ll Become Total Slaves’

The media entrepreneur warned that governors currently supporting the President may eventually regret their actions if he wins re-election.

“What will then happen is that you have a full-blown dictatorship, and all the governors will now be at his mercy. They will regret it if he wins a second term as they’ll become total slaves to him,” Momodu said.

Naija News reports that Momodu’s remarks come amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, as alignments and realignments continue to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
