Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Moses Opeisa, has been declared the winner of the keenly contested by-election across 24 polling units of Ohunbe Ward 8 in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Naija News reports that no fewer than 19 political parties participated in the recently conducted by-election across 24 polling units of Ohunbe Ward 8 in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
At the end of the exercise, the Returning Officer for the ward, Kabiru Oyeyemi, stated that Opeisa secured 2,255 votes out of the 3,263 total votes cast in the election.
He disclosed that voting commenced at exactly 8:00 a.m., with security agencies deployed to various polling units to maintain peace and order throughout the exercise.
The returning officer expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of voters and the cooperation of party agents who monitored proceedings at the polling centres.
Reacting to the outcome, the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, described the by-election as peaceful and orderly.
Osibodu commended the people of Ohunbe for what he termed their commitment to electing a new councillor who would represent their interests at the local government level.
Represented by OGSIEC Board Member Ayodele Bankole, the chairman also applauded the electoral officials and security personnel deployed to the polling units and collation centre for their professionalism during the exercise.
In the same vein, the Olohunbe of Ohunbe Land, Oba Adekola Oladokun, expressed appreciation to the OGSIEC team for conducting what he described as a smooth, free and credible election.
The by-election, which drew participation from 19 political parties, was held to fill the councillorship position for Ohunbe Ward 8 in Yewa North Local Government Area.
