The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed opposition criticisms of the 2027 general election timetable, describing their objections as misplaced and politically motivated.
Basiru, who spoke with Saturday Punch on Friday, said the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission was in strict compliance with the Electoral Act.
Reacting to calls for a review of the schedule, the APC scribe insisted that the outcry by opposition figures was unwarranted.
“They are funny fellows. The timetable was issued in accordance with the existing electoral law recently passed,” he said.
According to him, the opposition’s reaction reflects a lack of preparedness ahead of the 2027 polls.
Basiru advised aggrieved parties to seek legal redress if they believe the timetable contravenes the law, rather than engaging in public criticism.
He stated, “Their lamentation only shows their lack of preparedness and tardiness. So, they want to set a timetable for themselves for the election they want to participate in?
“If they feel so strongly that anything untoward has occurred, they could either challenge the timetable in a law court or politically decide to boycott the elections.”
Opposition parties have in recent days faulted the revised timetable, arguing that it imposes tight deadlines that may disadvantage them ahead of the 2027 general elections.
