Abia State University (ABSU) has suspended Prof. Nnamdi Nwaeze, a lecturer in the Department of Economics within the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, following a social media post.
The suspension was announced on Thursday in a statement by Chijioke Nwogu, the university's spokesman and deputy registrar. Nwaeze was suspended on Wednesday after publishing a Facebook post concerning the recently declared industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at ABSU.
In his post, Nwaeze stated that he was familiar with the issues that led to the strike but had previously chosen not to speak on them to avoid being labeled an "enemy of the state" or being dismissed for making a "political statement."
The professor asserted that ABSU lecturers receive the poorest remuneration and are the lowest paid among all Nigerian universities.
