The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State successfully held its ward congresses across Umuahia North and other local government areas on Wednesday in a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.
The congresses were closely monitored by the Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Emmanuel Goar, who led a delegation from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking during the exercise, Goar assured that the committee would strictly adhere to the harmonisation directive, conducting transparent and credible congresses that reflect the will of party stakeholders.
“With what I have seen on the ground, I have no doubt that Abia State is APC. With the determination of the members I have seen here today, APC in Abia State will record a massive victory for President Tinubu in 2027,” he stated.
Goar expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct and organisation of the congresses, noting that the level of participation and enthusiasm demonstrated by members was a strong indication of the party’s growing strength in the state.
Stanley Ohajuruka also commended party faithful for the impressive turnout across the wards. He thanked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and all stakeholders in the state for ensuring a smooth and credible congress.
He congratulated successful ward leaders, reminding them of the responsibility placed upon them as grassroots leaders, stressing that ward executives are critical to the party’s success and must work diligently to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Before the ward congresses, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu addressed party members at the Renewed Hope Partners office in Umuahia, reiterating the party’s adoption of harmonisation to strengthen unity and cohesion within the APC.
“Harmonisation ensures inclusiveness by giving all stakeholders a sense of belonging in selecting leaders from the ward to the state level. No individual owns the party,” Kalu said.
He added, “APC belongs to every member; nobody is bigger than the party. The party is sovereign… Harmonisation is where stakeholders are given a sense of belonging in deciding who will lead from their ward to their local government, as well as the state, where everybody is given a sense of importance and relevance.”
Kalu further explained that the President insisted that deviations from party decisions should not occur, ensuring swift intervention by the National Chairman and NWC when necessary.
This resolution paved the way for his return to Abia to oversee the harmonised congresses, aimed at returning ownership of the party to grassroots members.
The ward congresses mark a significant step in the APC’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Naija News reports that the congress process is scheduled to continue on Thursday, February 26, 2026, with the Local Government Congresses across Abia State.
