Former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit has dismissed the chances of Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or. The 55-year-old argued that Kane does not deserve the prestigious individual accolade because of his performance in high-stakes matches.
Speaking to Sport1, Petit explained that Kane's outlook has worsened following the World Cup.
“Following this World Cup, Harry Kane’s chances for the Ballon d’Or have diminished,”Petit said.
While acknowledging Kane's domestic success, Petit pointed out his struggles in major tournaments.
“If you base it purely on the Bundesliga, he would certainly be a candidate. But in the Champions League and with the national team, whenever things got really tight, he mostly disappeared,”Petit remarked.
Despite Petit's criticism, the 33-year-old forward has put up highly impressive individual statistics.
