Why Teyana Taylor's Corset Hair Dress Has the Internet Divided

Oscars 2026 GLAMBOT: Teyana Taylor

Not everyone was hair for Teyana Taylor's latest look.

The One Battle After Another star sparked quite the online reaction with her avant-garde gown at the 2026 Billboard Women in Music event on April 29.

Designer by Ashi Studio, the cream-colored number featured strands of brunette hair embroidered into designs on a sculptural corset, along with a lengthy long brown braid that helped cinch the bodice closed. . She paired the top with an asymmetrical tulle skirt fringed to look like it had been singed by fire.

Teyana completed ensemble with satin, lace-up booties with their own corset-like boning by Christian Louboutin.

Needless to say, the internet was divided.

"It feels grotesque and full of disorganized ideas," one Instagram user wrote, while another commented, "I say this is her first miss!"

However, a third fan argued, "This outfit and glam are a dramatic statement and it is exquisite."

But Teyana has always been a fan of fashion pieces with unique details. Take the Chanel dress she wore to the 2026 Oscars, which has the names of her and ex Iman Shumpert's daughters Iman “Junie” Shumpert, 10, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 5, subtly stitched onto the sheer fabric.

And for Teyana, who ultimately lost the award for Best Supporting Actress to Weapons' Amy Madigan, there are no frontrunners for favorite outfit from her fashionable awards season run.

"There have been so many special ones," she told W Magazine earlier this year. "Each look has its own moment, and it’s all about how I’m feeling that day and what story I want to tell."

The 35-year-old continued, "This season has really been about having fun and expressing different sides of myself."

In fact, she described her red carpet prep as "organized chaos."

"It takes a village, but my village is like my family, and there’s so much love in the room," she added. "My kids are usually there running around. It might look crazy from the outside, but the energy is right, and that’s what really gets me ready."

Boudoir Babe

The One Battle After Another star wore this stunning Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown at the Critics Choice Association's 2025 celebration of Black cinema and television event.

The intricate dress—which featured a strapless corset and a long, black shawl draped from one shoulder—was inspired by the dressing room.

“The idea of this dress is very much that she’s in the bedroom putting her corset on,” the designer explained on Instagram. "The door goes and she just grabs this Spanish embroidered scarf and wraps it around herself to go and answer the door. So it’s that sort of story that, ‘I’m half dressed, half not dressed.’”
