Troops rescue two kidnap victims during fighting patrol in Taraba 

Nigerian military forces have successfully rescued two individuals who were abducted by kidnappers in the Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State. The operation was conducted by troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army alongside Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

The rescue took place during the early hours of Saturday, July 26, following actionable intelligence regarding kidnappers active in the Lande Jessi area. According to a Monday statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, the military acted after armed criminals raided the villages of Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani. During those raids, the criminals stole food items and kidnapped two residents.

The rescued individuals, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, had been held in captivity for approximately one week before being freed during the targeted search-and-rescue mission.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, the Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, praised the personnel for their rapid action, professionalism, and determination. He emphasized that the successful rescue highlights the military's ongoing dedication to safeguarding lives and property in Taraba State.

Brigadier General Akaliro noted that the mission aligns with instructions from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to aggressively combat criminal activities and establish enduring peace throughout Nigeria. He called on the forces to maintain their momentum, stay alert, and restrict the movement of criminal elements in the region. Additionally, Akaliro reassured the public of the army's commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and urged community members to assist security forces by sharing timely and reliable information.
