Nigerian midfielder Samson Tijani has secured a loan move to Slovakian club FK Železiarne Podbrezová for the 2026/27 season. He joins the team from Czech side Dukla Prague.
The transfer agreement between the two clubs includes an option for Podbrezová to make the transfer permanent with a subsequent two-year contract.
The 23-year-old midfielder originally moved to Dukla Prague on a free transfer last summer, following his departure from Austrian club Salzburg. During his time with Dukla Prague, Tijani made 26 league appearances.
At the international level, Tijani has represented Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles. He was featured in the squad for the 2026 Unity Cup, where he played in matches against Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
Why It Matters
Central and Eastern European leagues, including those in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, historically serve as vital developmental pathways for young African footballers aiming to establish their careers in European football. For Nigerian players, securing consistent first-team playing time in these competitive leagues is often essential for earning the attention of national team selectors. Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles, remains one of the most competitive squads on the African continent, meaning players must perform regularly at the club level to maintain their international prospects.
