English Championship sides Birmingham City and Derby County have emerged as the latest clubs interested in acquiring FC Basel winger Philip Otele.
According to reports from transfeed, Derby County has already opened negotiations with the Swiss outfit to secure the 27-year-old Nigerian. However, the two English clubs are facing competition from Italy, with Serie A teams Leece and Frosinone also registering interest in Otele.
Otele spent the second half of last season on loan with Bundesliga side Hamburg. His stint at the Volksparkstadion was largely quiet, as he managed to score just one goal across nine league appearances. Following his limited impact, Hamburg chose not to make the transfer permanent.
FC Basel is currently prepared to authorize a permanent sale for the winger, and the club is expected to demand a transfer fee of approximately €5m.
