Authorities in Osun State have launched an investigation following the discovery of a deceased, unidentified woman on the grounds of a church in the Obelewo area of Osogbo.

The victim was found with her left wrist severed and missing from the scene, with authorities suspecting the body part was removed by unidentified individuals.

Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu disclosed the situation in a statement on Sunday, noting that police detectives dispatched to the scene discovered the body after the incident was reported. Preliminary findings suggest the woman was murdered before her wrist was cut off and taken away.

"The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons," Iniedu said.

According to the police spokesperson, investigators have not yet determined the victim's identity, the motive behind the killing, or the exact circumstances surrounding her death. Ongoing efforts are focused on identifying the deceased and gathering further evidence to resolve the case.

The woman's body has been transferred to a hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the State Command’s Investigation Department has taken charge of the case to identify those responsible and establish the motive for the crime.
