Met Gala 2026 Dress Code Revealed

Lindsey Vonn traded her skis for high heels—and a special dress.

Months after a devastating crash at the Milano Cortina Olympics earlier this year, which resulted in multiple leg surgeries, the Olympic gold medalist made her return to the iconic steps at the 2026 Met Gala—her first appearance at the event in over a decade.

Showing off her interpretation of the “Fashion is Art” dress code, the 41-year-old sported a beaded white mermaid gown with a large tulle trim. She was supported on the steps by a black and gold walking cane, too.

“I just feel beautiful,” Lindsey exclusively told Zuri Hall during Live From E!: Met Gala 2026. “They spent 4000 hours to make this dress.”

As for the Olympian’s mindset for fashion’s biggest night?

“I'm just very thankful,” she continued. “There’s a lot of moments where I didn't know where I would be or where I would get to, and getting to this place is really special. So I'm very thankful.”

Lindsey is no stranger to the storied fashion benefit, which is co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams this year. She last attended the Met Gala in 2013 alongside her then-boyfriend Tiger Woods. Forgoing the punk-rock theme, the ex-couple stuck with a simple black-tie ensemble.

Before that, the skier graced the 2010 Met Gala, which celebrated the fashion of American women.

Her appearance on the Met steps this year marks a triumphant return to the spotlight after suffering a broken left tibia from her crash in February.

While she revealed she nearly had to have her leg amputated due to compression syndrome, Lindsey was back on her feet at the Met just a few months later, showcasing the progress she has made throughout her recovery journey.

Beyond simply walking up the steps, the athlete—who had suffered an ACL tear just ahead of the Olympics—recently revealed that she isn’t ruling out a return to the slopes. Telling Today on April 7 that she’s itching for the next race, she explained, “I never got a final run, I never got to say goodbye. I think it leaves a door slightly open.”

Although the injury left her feeling isolated, she also said returning to public life would help her mentally recover from the experience, so this Met Gala walk is a step in the right direction.

“I didn’t have my Olympic dream situation,” she continued on Today. “I need to walk and be out in public and, you know, be living life. And I think that will give me a different perspective.”
