Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen Break Up After 18 Years of Marriage

Relationships aren’t exactly easy as pie.

After 18 years of marriage, Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen have separated, their rep confirmed to E! News. Despite the breakup, the American Pie star and the Extracted actress remain on “great terms,” the rep continued, and are focused on raising their two sons Sid, 12, and Lazlo, 8.

Perhaps their relationship just got off to an unlucky start—if you believe in superstitions and factor in the day they first crossed paths.

"I met my husband on Friday the 13th," Mollen shared on a 2023 episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan, joking that the 2007 meet-cute occurred "right after he walked under a ladder and ran over a black cat."

In all seriousness, the two were set up on a blind date. Although, Mollen didn’t walk into it completely blind as she had already seen Biggs' audition tapes for their 2008 movie My Best Friend’s Girl. In fact, she had actually urged a producer to give the role to someone else as she thought the actor had already achieved enough success.

"I, of course, was like, 'Well, who cares about Jason Biggs? He’s already famous. You have to give it to the underdog,'" she recalled in a 2022 interview with Access Hollywood. "I didn’t want to root for Jason. He already had more than I had. I was already jealous of him without even knowing him. So, I pushed the other guy and then I watched the tapes and instantly had to call the producer back and say, 'I’m blown away. Jason Biggs is a really good actor. You have to give it to him—and I might be in love with him.'"

The love was mutual, and, nine months after meeting, the couple tied the knot in April 2008. While they tried to have a woman marry them at their L.A. home, it didn’t work out as they had planned. Instead, they exchanged vows in the parking lot of a FedEx Kinkos, which was a very efficient place to wed.

"In retrospect, how could we have gotten married anywhere else?" Mollen said on a 2023 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark. "We needed to sign and photocopy. And so, we did it in the parking lot right next to Taco Bell. It was very romantic."

The pair exchanged vows again later that July, with People reporting they said "I do" at sunset in front of about 40 people in Napa, Calif. However, their life wasn’t all newlywed bliss.

"She was trying to figure out her career, and I was still on my path," the 48-year-old detailed of his struggle with addiction on a 2025 episode of Well With Arielle Lorre. "But I was also using all the time—much more than she knew."

And so in their first stretch of marriage, “I had a couple years there where, even though I had gotten married and ostensibly was maturing and becoming this adult, I was still just blocking everything out with drugs and alcohol," he continued. "Just everything was still kind of a blur, and it just sort of got worse and worse."

After Biggs found out Mollen was pregnant with their eldest son Sid, he went on what he called a "three-day bender" and knew he had to make a change.

"I was like, 'What am I doing?'" the Wedding Daze alum continued. "'I just found out my wife is pregnant, and what was my reaction? I did every drug I could find. Like, that’s not sustainable. It can’t be. I don’t want to be that.'"

What followed was, as Biggs put it, "four years of 'OK, I’ll try sobriety.'" He and Mollen welcomed Sid in February 2014, and the trio moved to New York the following year. Biggs continued on his journey and fully became sober in 2017, the same year the family welcomed their youngest member Lazlo.

Throughout their nearly two decades of marriage, Biggs and Mollen remained partners both on screen—appearing in 2016’s Amateur Night together and co-hosting the 2024 revival of Dinner and a Movie—and off. In a 2018 interview, Mollen credited the success of their relationship to having good communication, remaining open to the idea of being wrong and staying committed to one another.

“We’ve been in couple’s therapy since we met, but I would say just wanting it to work is huge,” the 46-year-old told Build Series at the time. "You have to really want it. If you don’t care, it’s so easy to get divorced. So easy. So you have to really be motivated."

An Autocorrect Error Led to Jason's Nickname

Jenny adorably shared on The Drew Barrymore Show in May 2021 that she often calls Jason "Jadon" on Instagram after her phone autocorrected his name. "I would write Jason and the phone would say Jadon, and then I would start doing it because I'm always referred to as 'Jason Biggs' wife' and I liked it because it's sort of my way of being a little disrespectful to him," Jenny joked. "And so I'm like, putting him in his place. No, on Instagram, you're my husband."

The couple are parents to two boys, Sid (born in 2014) and Lazlo (born in 2017). However, Jason isn't counting out baby no. 3 just yet. "As soon as I get my third, my girl, then I'm going to retire," Jason joked to People in 2018.

Labor Of Love

The parents of two know that marriage is truly a labor of love. Jason and Jenny stopped by Hannah Brown's season of The Bachelorette in 2019 to prep the male suitors on how to really treat a pregnant woman. Hint: giving birth is not as fun as it sounds.

They Celebrate Jason's Sobriety

Jason marked one year sober in Oct. 2018 and took to social media to open up about his struggle with alcohol and drug dependency. "I first tried to get sober over 5 years ago, when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy for me to handle," Jason wrote. "Turns out this s––t is hard. After some fits and starts, I've managed to put together one year of sobriety. I'm as proud of it as anything in my life. If you're struggling, know there's help. Don't be ashamed. We can do this."

Jenny similarly shared a tribute to her husband: "So proud of my husband today," Jenny captioned for his milestone. "Congrats baby. I know how hard you work. I see you. I love you. Thank you for your fight."

Jenny Keeps It Real About Motherhood

This couple stands by each other no matter what. Writer-actor Jenny had no problem giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at motherhood, and thanking her husband Jason for his support. "You'll be shocked how fast you can just wake up one day and be in the darkest place and think, 'What's wrong with me? I'm a new mom. I should be so happy.' Everybody else is telling me how lucky and happy and amazing things are," Jenny shared on Instagram Stories in 2017. "Don't buy into that s––t. If you feel bad, please get help."

Feelin' Frisky

Jenny and Jason's passion for one another still runs deep...even if it's a little NSFW. "When people ask what it was like having actors as parents," Jenny joked on Instagram with a makeout pic of her and Jason, and their kids only a few feet away.

Jenny also famously revealed in her memoir I Like You Just the Way I Am that she hired a prostitute for Jason's birthday, but the American Pie star couldn't perform during the planned threesome. "[The] prostitute wasn't engaging with my wife the way I hope she would, so it all kind of fell apart, and the rest is in the book," Jason said on The View in 2014, as reported by Page Six.

They're Listening!

The former SiriusXM radio co-hosts take their own advice: Jason and Jenny work with a marriage counselor! "We have been getting along at the end of the day because we have a therapist," Jenny shared with People in Dec. 2020. "You can't work together and not have a therapist."

Or, as Jason put it, "You've got to do it as a preemptive strike."

"Luckily this has been a real bonding experience for us," Jenny told Us Weekly in Aug. 2020. "And I think it's brought us closer. So there's more intimacy in our relationship than ever. And it feels good."
