Watch video from Kano State’s government-sponsored mass wedding, where 1,500 couples from low-income backgrounds married at the Emir’s Palace, with one groom quoted as happily adding a third wife, another young groom said he didn’t marry a widow that he married a 17-year-old beautiful girl.

Organised by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration as a social intervention, the event provided each couple with dowries, household items, business startup funds, and medical screenings including HIV and genotype tests.
