Guterres arrives in Syria in first official visit by a UN chief in 17 years

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Syria for an official visit, representing the first time a sitting UN chief has traveled to the country in 17 years. Guterres landed on Saturday morning, July 25, 2026, at Damascus international airport, where he and his delegation were received by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani
