JERUSALEM / RAMALLAH — The conflict between the U.S.-Israeli coalition and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached a tragic milestone on Thursday, March 19, 2026, as the sixth barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles since midnight resulted in the first Palestinian civilian deaths of the war. While the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, several high-tech "cluster bomb" warheads managed to bypass defenses, causing fatalities in both central Israel and the occupied West Bank.
The Cluster Strike at Moshav Adanim In central Israel, emergency responders from Magen David Adom (MDA) were called to Moshav Adanim following reports of a direct hit. According to military analysts, the projectile was a ballistic missile equipped with a cluster munition warhead, which is designed to scatter hundreds of smaller bomblets over a wide area.
A 30-year-old foreign worker, whose nationality has not yet been officially released, was caught in the open during the strike. Medics reported that he sustained critical injuries from shrapnel and succumbed to his wounds shortly after being reached by rescue teams. This death brings the total number of civilians killed within Israel since the start of the "Second Iran War" on February 28 to fifteen.
Tragedy in the West Bank: The First Palestinian Victims Approximately an hour before the strike in central Israel, a similar cluster munition struck the Palestinian town of Beit Awwa, located southwest of Hebron in the West Bank. The Palestine Red Crescent Society confirmed that the munition hit a local hair salon, which had been set up in a metal caravan.
The blast killed three Palestinian women: Sahira Masalma (50), Amal Masalma (36), and Mais Masalma (17). The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, reported that thirteen others were wounded in the same incident, several of them critically. This marks the first time since the hostilities began that Iranian "retaliatory" fire has directly claimed the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank. The tragedy has sparked an outcry across the region, as many Palestinian communities lack the sophisticated early-warning sirens and reinforced bomb shelters available to residents in major Israeli cities.
A New Phase of "Indiscriminate" Warfare The IDF has stated that roughly half of the ballistic missiles launched by Iran in the current conflict have been armed with cluster bomb warheads. These weapons are widely condemned by international human rights organizations as "inherently indiscriminate."
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement via state-run media, claiming the strikes were "revenge for the blood of martyr Ali Larijani," the Iranian national security chief killed in an Israeli airstrike earlier this week. However, the mounting civilian death toll—particularly among non-combatants in the West Bank—has led to increased diplomatic pressure on Tehran. As the region enters the final days of Ramadan, the "sixth salvo" serves as a stark reminder that the technology of modern warfare often outpaces the ability of civilian populations to find safety.
