Beyoncé's Crystal-Dripped Skeleton Look Makes Her Queen of the Met

Beyoncé laid her cards down, down, down, down when she returned to the 2026 Met Gala May 4, her first time back on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art since the 2016 event.

This isn't just a sweet dream—Beyoncé is actually at the 2026 Met Gala.

A decade after the "Crazy In Love" singer last stepped onto the coveted red steps outside of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, she returned for the biggest night in fashion on May 4.

Arriving in a stunning crystal skeleton gown featuring a glimmering crown, Beyoncé perfectly embodied the evening's "Fashion is Art" dress code that celebrated the human body as art. Attending with husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy Carter, 14, Beyoncé completed her look with an ombre billowing feather coat as she took over the steps of the Met.

But it's no surprise that the Grammy winner's look was on top. After all, she is co-chairing the event with Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Vogue's Anna Wintour. (See all the stars on the Met steps here.)

And she's definitely no stranger to running the red carpet. During Beyoncé's last appearance at the gala in 2016, she turned heads in a peach Givenchy Haute Couture latex gown featuring puffed sleeves. The look was adorned with hand-painted flowers and constellations of pearl beads.

And whether she's hitting all the right notes on stage or dazzling on the red carpet, the 44-year-old—who shares daughter Blue Ivy and 8-year-old twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter with Jay-Z—has always been in style. In fact, it's part of her family history.

"As long as I can remember, fashion has been part of my life," she said while accepting CFDA Fashion Icon honors in 2016. "Its effect on me actually started before I was born. Many of you guys don't know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress."

"My grandparents did not have enough money, they could not afford my mother's Catholic school tuition," she continued. "So my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother's education. She then passed this gift onto my mother and taught her how to sew."

And when Beyoncé joined Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child, it was her mom Tina Knowles who brought their style to life.

"High-end labels didn't really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn't afford designer dresses and couture," she explained. "Like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams."

"My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail," she added. "I had an extra suit of armor."

And she certainly threw down the metaphorical fashion gauntlet at the 2026 Met Gala. Keep reading to check out all the winning looks.
