A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) , Ibrahim Wala, has alleged that the party’s presidential primary election was marred by intimidation, vote buying and other irregularities.
Naija News reports that Wala, a loyalist of former Rivers State governor and ADC presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, said he monitored the exercise in Gombe State.
Amaechi had earlier rejected the result of the primary, alleging that the process lacked transparency and fairness.
In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Wala backed Amaechi’s position and described the exercise as a “brazen, shameless auction.”
He said the process betrayed the values the ADC had promised to uphold. Wala alleged that voters were intimidated and disenfranchised during the exercise.
He further claimed that the outcome of the primary was allegedly determined outside the official voting process.
The ADC chieftain called on former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, who was leading in the results, to dissociate himself from what he described as “dirty, concocted primary election results.”
He claimed to have “undisputed evidence of irregularities and voter disenfranchisement” during the exercise in Gombe State.
Wala alleged that he was personally approached by an agent who offered to take him to the committee leadership’s hotel room to secure what he needed.
“I was personally approached by an agent offering to take me to the committee leadership’s hotel room to secure whatever I needed
“This hotel room was treated exactly like a clandestine situation room where the state party leadership retired after their field day to finish their manipulative work behind closed doors,” he added.
