The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has announced the immediate dissolution of all its caucuses across the state's 16 local government areas. The decision is part of a major restructuring effort designed to prepare the party for the 2027 general elections.
This decision was reached by the State Executive Committee (SEC) and other key stakeholders following a closed-door meeting with the party leader and former President of the 8th Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, during his recent homecoming and stakeholders' engagements in the state.
Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, disclosed the development in a statement released on Sunday, explaining that the restructuring aims to reposition the PDP for a stronger performance in the 2027 elections.
According to Adewara,
"the dissolution was part of a broader plan to refresh the party’s structures, introduce new hands and expand participation among members across the state."
He added,
"The journey towards 2027 has effectively commenced, the party needs a more effective and inclusive political machinery capable of delivering victory for the PDP at all levels."
Adewara further clarified that the SEC acted within its constitutional powers to take the necessary measures to strengthen, reorganize, and reposition the party in the interest of its members and its overall electoral prospects.
The party also expressed its gratitude to the members of the dissolved caucuses for their loyalty, contributions, and sacrifices toward the growth of the PDP in Kwara.
The statement noted,
